The Beefboy has a long and increasingly vociferous negative view of journalism today. In many ways, and for many reasons, the mainstream media has forgotten what real journalism is. One man who understood the importance of subverting personal bias in favor of delivering the news to the public, and allowing you to make up your own mind, was Walter Cronkite.
With the passing of Mr. Cronkite, I hope the journalists of today will remember the trust we used to put in how news was delivered and perhaps will begin to employ some of the old-school methods of Walter Cronkite, like following multiple sources, asking tough and pointed questions to BOTH sides of the political spectrum and removing their own personal bias from the story. I don’t expect that to happen, but it would be a welcome change.
Since this post is about Walter Cronkite, I’m going to leave you with a crossover that is absolutely unbelievable. Reporting on the advances of computer animation, Cronkite was inserted into the world of Tron to demonstrate the possibilities. The following video is of hideous quality, but excels in the “cool” department!
